there are 26 states, including Washington D. C., and Puerto Rico, as well as all 8 Canadian provinces with some form of legislation in place.

Legislation serves to legally recognize the profession of interior design and establish standards of minimum competency through education, examination, and experience to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the general public.  Legislation will also unify the profession, define responsibility, and encourage excellence.

Why Register Professional Interior Designers in Oregon?

  • Protect the health, safety, and welfare of the general public
  • Enable consumers to identify interior designers who are qualified by education, experience, and examination.
  • Encourage excellence and improve the quality of human environmental design
  • Define the responsibilities and scope of work of interior design
  • Unify the profession

Oregon’s IIDA Chapter is committed to educating and increasing awareness among design professionals, educators, and students about the importance of legal regulation for interior designers.  We work diligently to develop key relationships for broadening and deepening awareness of professional responsibility for the general publics’ health, safety, and welfare.

IIDA-Oregon takes an active role in initiating and building a dialogue about legislation through Professional Development and Educational Forums.  These forums provide a place where members can learn about legislation and gain an understanding of the impact legal recognition will have on the profession.

Our overall goal is successful participation in the legislative process and increased awareness of the interior design’s value as a single profession. To ensure interior designers understand their professional responsibilities IIDA-Oregon promotes the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) as the basis for testing minimum competency for interior designers.

NEWS:
Oregon’s previous interior design legislative coalition was called The Oregon Coalition of Professional Interior Designers (OCPID).

This name has officially been changed to The Interior Design Collaborative-Oregon (IDC-Oregon), www.IDC-Oregon.org. IDC-Oregon is comprised of members from IIDA, American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Northwest Society of Interior Designers (NWSID), and National Kitchen and Bath (NKBA).  The Collaborative is a unified voice of the interior design community working toward legal recognition in Oregon.  IIDA-Oregon strongly supports IDC-Oregon’s approach to developing legislative action and is committed to working towards legal recognition of the interior design profession.
