Professional Members are actively engaged in the profession of interior design or design education and have passed the accrediting NCIDQ exam.

Associate Members:
Designers who are actively engaged in the profession and meet the educational requirement for the NCIDQ, but have not yet completed all parts of the examination. Most individuals who have recently graduated and are beginning their career are at this level. Applicants must meet the education requirements of the NCIDQ exam or equivalent (a two-year certificate in interior design or equivalent educational credits).

Student Members:
IIDA offers a special member rate to students and recent graduates who were active student members. See our Student Membership Benefits page for all of the unique perks offered specifically to our Student Members.

Educators:
Full time educators and department chairs who are employed by local Colleges or Universities may join as a Professional or Associate member, but may be eligible for reduced rates.

Industry Members:
Manufacturers and dealers/distributors of interior design products (carpeting, furniture, textiles, wallcoverings, etc.). This membership type offers tremendous networking opportunities for companies to promote their products and services to IIDA Members.

International Members:
The International Dual Membership and International Membership reflects the Association’s international focus. These membership levels allow you to take advantage of member benefits and networking opportunities wherever you are located. With over 30 worldwide chapters, including Europe and Asia, IIDA is poised to take an active role in the international design community.

Inactive/Retired Members:
IIDA recognizes that when you are passionate about design, that passion often lasts a lifetime – whether you are currently practicing or not. If you want to retain your membership through retirement, or if you are unable to continue practicing due to disability, illness, unemployment, or relocation, contact memberservices@iida.org to inquire about Inactive or Retired Status.

Membership Appellations

Understanding the value of education and research has been the mainstay of IIDA since its inception. Educated Members make informed, safe, and creative decisions. The IIDA appellation after a Member’s name means that they have met all of the high requirements for membership. If you are a member in good standing, you can use the IIDA acronym after your name. Using your IIDA designation shows your clients, employers and peers that you are deeply committed to your profession. It demonstrates to a prospective employer that you have the qualifications that give you an edge.

Use your IIDA credential:

    • on your business cards, website, and letterhead
    • when being interviewed in the newspaper
    • when receiving recognition in press releases, newsletters and announcements

Remember to capitalize IIDA. Do not separate with periods or other punctuation.

List IIDA first when you include multiple appellations. Alphabetize ensuing appellations.
