We are looking for a creative individual that shares our passion for community, quality, and style and has a strong desire to contribute to our growing team in Bend, Oregon.  The Design Manager will deliver an exceptional experience for homebuyers by providing strategic direction on design selections company-wide and providing effective training and leadership to the design team.

A strong candidate will have the business acumen to quickly develop an understanding of our business and take the initiative to deliver on the following essential functions:

  • Uphold the Pahlisch brand identity; driving interior design innovation to ensure Pahlisch is represented as an industry leader in design; balancing current style with timeless appeal
  • Hire, train and develop design team members to ensure an exceptional buyer experience
  • Develop and execute community design center strategy
  • Act as an internal interior design consultant for Architecture in development and innovation of plans
  • Develop and own overall design concepts
  • Oversee the selection of hard surface, fixture and hardware product offerings
  • Design visual presentation strategies to showcase interior and exterior product selections
  • Work alongside Purchasing to ensure design selections meet budgetary requirements
  • Create and establish Buyer design meeting processes and procedures
  • Ensure processes and procedures align with construction schedules
  • Oversee selection metrics to track performance of individual options and selection packages
  • Provide creative inspiration and manage team execution of model and show homes, including both design selections and home staging.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers stakeholders to meet deadlines within project plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • 7+ years of related design or interiors experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combined years of experience
  • Experience in design concepts within new residential construction preferred
  • Previous experience supervising a geographically decentralized team
  • Excellent influencing skills and ability to drive customer satisfaction results through design team
  • Possesses a strong identity in interior design and creative capability
  • Knowledge of current materials costs and standards
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, possessing strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multitask across multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast paced, ever changing environment
  • Strong work ethic with a high level of integrity both in and out of work environment
  • Reliable transportation: travel is required

Supervisory responsibilities
This position is responsible for hiring, coaching, and driving results of the design team located in each region.

Works laterally with
Operations, Purchasing, Sales, Software, Construction and CAD Management Teams.

Work environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This job regularly requires access to homes in various building phases.

Physical demands
This position must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time. This person in this position needs to occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, copiers, scanners, etc. This person in this position constantly operates a computer, copier and design samples such as tile, hardwoods, paint, carpet, cabinets and all other items pertaining to the design horizon. 25% of this position may be physical in nature to transport design materials, design boards, and other design related product to and from. This position must be able to frequently communicate with vendors and colleagues via email and phone.

Travel required
Moderate travel is expected for this position with occasional overnight stays within other regions.
